 Proverbs 16
²⁴   Pleasant words are as a honeycomb,

sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

Proverbs 15
¹   A gentle answer turns away wrath,

But a harsh word stirs up anger.

The Bible features donkeys as
prominent figures throughout. Abraham & the
children of Israel were familiar with the abundant talents of the
donkey. Balaam's donkey was the only animal
in the bible the Lord gave the power of speech
to, after she saved Balaam's life three times,
even after he beat her. (Numbers 22:21-33) A
donkey carried Mary to the stable.  And
Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem on the first
Palm Sunday.

Luke 6

1 Thessalonians 5

¹   Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you,
²   for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
³   While people are saying, "Peace and safety,"
 destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman,
and they will not escape.
⁴   But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.
⁵   You are all sons of the light and sons of the day.
 We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
⁶   So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep,
but let us be alert and self-controlled.
⁷   For those who sleep, sleep at night,
and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.
⁸   But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled,
putting on faith and love as a breastplate,
 and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
⁹   For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath
 but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
¹⁰  He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep,
we may live together with him.
¹¹  Therefore encourage one another and build each other up,
 just as in fact you are doing.

¹⁵  Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong,
but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.
¹⁶  Be joyful always;
¹⁷  pray continually;
¹⁸  give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Luke 12

⁸   Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men,
him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
⁹   But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
¹⁰  And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man,
 it shall be forgiven him:
 but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
 

Psalm 89

Proverbs 3

Living as Children of Light
²⁵  Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor,
for we are all members of one body.
²⁶  In your anger do not sin:
 Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,
²⁷  and do not give the devil a foothold.
²⁹  Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth,
but that which is good to the use of edifying,
 that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
³⁰  And grieve not the holy Spirit of God,
 whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
³¹  Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking,
be put away from you, with all malice:
³²  And be ye kind one to another,
tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
 even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

⁹   But even the archangel Michael,
when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses,
 did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him,
but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"
¹⁰  Yet these men speak abusively against whatever they do not understand;
 and what things they do understand by instinct,
 like unreasoning animals--these are the very things that destroy them.

⁷   Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth,
I am the gate for the sheep.
⁸   All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers,
but the sheep did not listen to them.
⁹   I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.
  He will come in and go out, and find pasture.
¹⁰  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;
 I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
¹¹  "I am the good shepherd.
 The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
¹²  The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep.
So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away.
 Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.
¹³  The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
¹⁴  "I am the good shepherd;
 I know my sheep and my sheep know me--
¹⁵  just as the Father knows me and I know
the Father--and I lay down my life for the sheep.
¹⁶  I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen.
 I must bring them also.
 They too will listen to my voice,
and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.
¹⁷  The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down
 my life--only to take it up again.
¹⁸  No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord.
I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again.
 This command I received from my Father."

John 6

³⁵Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life.
He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

¹²   Then shall ye call upon me,
 and ye shall go and pray unto me,
 and I will hearken unto you.
¹³   And ye shall seek me, and find me,
 when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

John 14

¹³   And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name,
that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
¹⁴   If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

he it is that loveth me:
 and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father,

John 5

The Son's Authority
¹⁹  Jesus told the people:
I tell you for certain that the Son cannot do anything on his own.
 He can do only what he sees the Father doing,
 and he does exactly what he sees the Father do.
²⁰  The Father loves the Son and has shown him everything he does.
 The Father will show him even greater things, and you will be amazed.
²¹  Just as the Father raises the dead and gives life,
 so the Son gives life to anyone he wants to.
²²  The Father doesn't judge anyone,
 but he has made his Son the judge of everyone.
²³  The Father wants all people to honor the Son as much as they honor him.
 When anyone refuses to honor the Son,
 that is the same as refusing to honor the Father who sent him.
²⁴  I tell you for certain that everyone who hears my message
 and has faith in the one who sent me
 has eternal life and will never be condemned.
They have already gone from death to life.
²⁵  I tell you for certain that the time will come,
 and it is already here, when all of the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God.
 And those who listen to it will live!
²⁶  The Father has the power to give life,
 and he has given that same power to the Son.
²⁷  And he has given his Son the right to judge everyone,
 because he is the Son of Man.
²⁸  Don't be surprised!
 The time will come when all of the dead
will hear the voice of the Son of Man,
²⁹  and they will come out of their graves.
 Everyone who has done good things will rise to life,
 but everyone who has done evil things will rise and be condemned.
³⁰  I cannot do anything on my own.
 The Father sent me, and he is the one who told me how to judge.
 I judge with fairness, because I obey him,
 and I don't just try to please myself.

Mark 11

²⁴   Therefore I say unto you,
What things soever ye desire,
when ye pray, believe that ye receive them,
 and ye shall have them.

Mark 13

³²   But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no,
not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
³³   Take ye heed, watch and pray:
 for ye know not when the time is.
³⁴   For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey,
 who left his house, and gave authority to his servants,
 and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
³⁵   Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh,
at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
³⁶   Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
³⁷   And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

Jeremiah 9

²³ This is what the LORD says:
"Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom
nor the strong man boast of his strength
or the rich man boast of his riches,
²⁴ but let him who boasts boast about this:
that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD ,
who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth,
 for in these I delight,"  declares the LORD .

²¹  When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too.
And as he was praying, heaven was opened
²²  and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove.
 And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son,
whom I love; with you I am well pleased."

1 Peter 1

¹⁷  Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially,
live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.
¹⁸  For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold
 that you were redeemed from the empty way
of life handed down to you from your forefathers,
¹⁹  but with the precious blood of Christ,
a lamb without blemish or defect.
 ²⁰  He was chosen before the creation of the world,
but was revealed in these last times for your sake.
 ²¹  Through him you believe in God,
 who raised him from the dead and glorified him,
 and so your faith and hope are in God.
²²  Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth
 so that you have sincere love for your brothers,
 love one another deeply,
from the heart.^]
23  For you have been born again,
not of perishable seed, but of imperishable,
 through the living and enduring word of God.
²⁴  For,
   "All men are like grass,
       and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
   the grass withers and the flowers fall,
        ²⁵  but the word of the Lord stands forever."
And this is the word that was preached to you.

John 3

³   Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
⁴   Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old?
 can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
⁵   Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
 Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,
he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
⁶   That which is born of the flesh is flesh;
 and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
⁷   Marvel not that I said unto thee,
 Ye must be born again.
⁸   The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof,
 but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth:
 so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

¹⁶   For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
 that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

¹   Let not your heart be troubled:
 ye believe in God, believe also in me.
²   In my Father's house are many mansions:
if it were not so, I would have told you.
 I go to prepare a place for you.
³   And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again,
and receive you unto myself;
 that where I am, there ye may be also.
⁴   And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
⁵   Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest;
 and how can we know the way?
⁶   Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:
no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

²   Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid:
 for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

³   Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee:
 because he trusteth in thee.
⁴   Trust ye in the LORD for ever:

Isaiah 40

Psalm 28

⁶   Blessed be the LORD,
 because he hath heard the voice of my supplications.
⁷   The LORD is my strength and my shield;

Love
¹   If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels,
 but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
²   If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge,
and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
³  If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,
 but have not love, I gain nothing.
⁴  Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy,
 it does not boast, it is not proud.
⁵  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking,
 it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
⁶  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
⁷  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
⁸  Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease;
 where there are tongues, they will be stilled;
where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
⁹  For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
¹⁰  but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.
¹¹  When I was a child, I talked like a child,
 I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child.
 When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
¹²  Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror;
 then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part;
 then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
¹³  And now these three remain:
 faith, hope and love.
 But the greatest of these is love.

¹⁷   Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:
 old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

²⁹   He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding:
but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

¹⁴ Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam;
so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.  

James 1

⁵    If any of you lacks wisdom,
 let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach,
and it will be given him.
⁶    But let him ask in faith, with no doubting,
for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea
that is driven and tossed by the wind
⁷   For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
⁸   A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

¹⁹  My dear brothers, take note of this:
 Everyone should be quick to listen,
 slow to speak and slow to become angry,
²⁰Your anger can never make things right in God's sight.

Matthew 6

Do Not Worry
²⁵  "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or drink;
or about your body, what you will wear.
 Is not life more important than food,
and the body more important than clothes?
²⁶  Look at the birds of the air;
 they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
 and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
 Are you not much more valuable than they?
²⁷  Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
²⁸  "And why do you worry about clothes?
 See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
²⁹  Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all
his splendor was dressed like one of these.
³⁰  If that is how God clothes the grass of the field,
 which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire,
 will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
³¹  So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?'
or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
³²  For the pagans run after all these things,
 and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
³³  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.
³⁴  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will worry about itself.
 Each day has enough trouble of its own.

 A Living Sacrifice

¹   I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God,
 to present your bodies as a living sacrifice,
 holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
²   Do not be conformed to this world,
 but be transformed by the renewal of your mind,
 that by testing you may discern what is the will of God,
 what is good and acceptable and perfect.
 
Marks of the True Christian

⁹   Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.
¹⁰  Love one another with brotherly affection.
 Outdo one another in showing honor.
¹¹  Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.
¹²  Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
¹³  Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
¹⁴  Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.
¹⁵  Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.
¹⁶  Live in harmony with one another.
 Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly.
 Never be conceited.
¹⁷  Repay no one evil for evil,
but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.
¹⁸  If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
¹⁹  Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God,
 for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says
If he is thirsty, give him something to drink;
 for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head."
²¹  Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

³   By wisdom a house is built,
 and through understanding it is established;
⁴   through knowledge its rooms are filled
with rare and beautiful treasures.
⁵   A wise man has great power,
and a man of knowledge increases strength;
¹³  Eat honey, my son, for it is good;
honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.
¹⁴  Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul;
 if you find it, there is a future hope for you,
 and your hope will not be cut off.
²⁶ An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

⁶ Do not be anxious about anything,
 but in everything, by prayer and petition,
 with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
⁷ And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
 will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
⁸ Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble,
 whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,
 whatever is admirable
--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--
think about such things.
 ⁹  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me,
or seen in me--put it into practice.
And the God of peace will be with you.

¹⁴   Wait on the LORD: be of good courage,
and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Psalm 86

¹   Bow down thine ear, O LORD, hear me:
for I am poor and needy.
⁵   For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive;
and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee
¹⁰  For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.
¹⁵  But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious,
 long suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.

²⁸   And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God,
 to them who are the called according to his purpose.

³⁸For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,
 neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
 ³⁹neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation,
 will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁵ A false witness will not go unpunished,
 and he who pours out lies will not go free.
⁸ He who gets wisdom loves his own soul;
 he who cherishes understanding prospers.
⁹ A false witness will not go unpunished,
 and he who pours out lies will perish.
¹¹ A man's wisdom gives him patience;
 it is to his glory to overlook an offense.
²³ The fear of the LORD leads to life:
Then one rests content, untouched by trouble.

Proverbs 19

²³  He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity.

Proverbs 22

 ²⁴  Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man,
do not associate with one easily angered,
²⁵  or you may learn his ways and get yourself ensnared.

Proverbs 23

¹²  Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.

⁹   Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart,
 and the pleasantness of one's friend springs from his earnest counsel.

Proverbs 28

¹⁴  Blessed is the man who always fears the LORD,
 but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.
²⁶  He who trusts in himself is a fool,
 but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe.

Proverbs 29

¹¹  A fool uttereth all his mind:
 but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.

⁵   Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
⁶   Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.

1 John 5

Concluding Remarks
¹³  I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God
so that you may know that you have eternal life.
¹⁴  This is the confidence we have in approaching God:
that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
¹⁵  And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know
 that we have what we asked of him.

Colossians 3

¹⁶  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom,
 and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
¹⁷  And whatever you do, whether in word or deed,
 do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Psalm 46

¹   God is our refuge and strength,
 a very present help in trouble.

Galatians 5

 Life by the Spirit
¹⁶ So I say, live by the Spirit,
 and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
¹⁷ For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit,
and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature.
 They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.
¹⁸ But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
¹⁹ The acts of the sinful nature are obvious:
 adultery, fornication, impurity and debauchery;
²⁰ idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy,
 fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
²¹ and envy; murder, drunkenness ,revellings, and the like.
I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
²³ gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
²⁴Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the
 sinful nature with its passions and desires
